ATC – American Truck Company, was a joint venture between Terex Inc and Tatra a.s., it was formed to sell trucks to the US Army and in particular the US Marines. This truck is a Tatra 6×6 Armax model truck with a mins engine and Allison automatic gearbox.

ATC is still in existance albeit it is almost an underground organisation, they are selling the ATC Wildland Ultra XT Firetender to the US Bureau of Land Management.

    1) OK guys, ATC (American Truck Company) was a joint venture between Tatra and ATC/Terex. ATC was set up to sell Tatra trucks to the US army and the marines. So far no trucks have been sold to the army or marines but many trucks have been sold to the US government’s fire department, especially the forestry fire department.

    The Dutch army …
The Dutch army bought Scania 8×8 trucks: When loaded with ISO containers, the chassis cannot flex, so the truck could not keep all its wheels on the ground because the ISO container prevented the chassis to tordate to ground contour: They now use a pivoting twist-lock carrying beam to be able to cross a small ditch ;-p

one of 1st prototypes? You mean 1st Tatra prototypes of 19th century, or the 1st backbone tube prototypes of early 1920’s, or first serially produced 8×8 of early cold war, or do you just mean those that became prototypes by importing to US and changing the brand from TATRA to ATC?

sorry, I couldn’t stop myself from replying on the 1st prototypes ;)
