Not particularly. If Hitler bought them, now that would be irony.

Not really. Too long ago to be really considered "ironic."

That would be the equivalent of saying that selling arms to Germany is ironic.

Chrysler was bought by Mercedes Benz, a German firm, first. And that was after Chrysler bought AMC, Jeep´s owner. It is ironic you missed that one.

Anyway, that is what happen when people, in this case Chrysler investors, researchers, workers, etc. grow too confident in themselves. They wanted to earn too much, did not produce great cars, and the result is being bought by a foreign company.

One thing that really puzzles me is that I never saw a Fiat in the US while I lived there. Why was that? Lack of quality? Too small cars? I don´t know what´s happening next. Perhaps Fiat will produce larger cars now. In Colorado I saw mostly US and Japanese cars, mostly front wheel drives, all wheel drive and 4WD. One instructor had a Mercedes, but that was the only one I saw..
