It’s the British Army.
A Troop Commander would usually be a Second Lieutenant, possibly a Lieutenant.
It therefore follows their salary will be in the range of £24,615 – £32,702 (most likely towards the bottom of that range).

What would make a romote controlled army impractical other than the current vehicles we have?

If your a grunt on the ground in Iraq or Afghanistan trying to contact and get authorization from uav operators in the states to provide immediate close air support can be a bitch. The optics and what you see while you fly has a very long way to go before it can operate like it would with a human pilot that can simply turn his head to look around, one example I know of a pilot was flying and saw some smoke on the ground right after he saw it he got a call for air support at that spot and he was able to provide immediate support, if that was a uav it would have taken time to get information to the operators and then they would have had to scan for the area and then provide support, the point is if there wasnt a human looking around things would have been very different for the guys on the ground. When I was in Iraq we lost a very high target because a uav shorted out or some shit and while it was tracking the vehicle with the individual in it, it suddenly zoomed out to a city wide view and because of that everything went to shit and the bg got away. Its mistakes like that that are easy to make and when there is so much depending on it its just to risky for uav’s to take over.

They may be doing training currently; they’re are possibly preparing for a deployment or just doing some sort of annual training. There probably traveling from one base to another like many will do in Afghanistan.

Some people say it is super heavy, but others say it’s light. How much does it weigh for the desert and rough terrain vehicles?

If it’s about the armor and some of the structure, I’d just make a broad assumption about the volume of steel and then calculate from there. Some vehicles don’t have armor too, and for comparisons sake they weigh twice as much as the heavier trucks that people buy

Depth (side of vehicle) = 15 ft
Width (front of vehicle) = 8 ft
Height = 5 ft
Average thickness = thick steel = .5"
Other stuff on the vehicle 4000 lbs

- Rough terrain – 10000 lbs
- Dessert would be lighter I’d say around 8500lbs

most likely you wil not leave the wire and you will be a fobbit. You might end up as a tower or gate guard and that will be the closest you will get to real combat. If you want to really help in the fight find another job.

Cash pure and simple, if there is something better on the market and we don’t have it, its because of cash! Murph’s 4th law of combat "Remember your kit was made by the lowest bidder!"

There is also a desire to buy British although this not always the case as many firms have outsources abroad; the new "warthog" is either being built in malaysia or singapore! There is also the case to save money, such as we’ve loads of "Snatch" landrovers left over from Ireland lets use them!
