A triangle stands for Armor and the < or > usually represent which platoon that vehicle is (not everyone uses it). I'm not familiar with a circle or square being painted on any vehicles.

Movies like ALIENS (1985), and others seem to have sets and props that look very similar to innovative new military concepts being created now. The generation that grew up watching these movies seems to have gotten engineering degrees and are now helping develope new uniforms, vehicles, etc..

They are green because it is the predominate color in nature. Also the paint on military vehicles are flat and dull colors, so that nothing appears shiny and reflective.
If troops wore black uniforms, they will greatly be spotted because you cannot break the outline of black as easily as ...
