It's the British Army.
A Troop Commander would usually be a Second Lieutenant, possibly a Lieutenant.
It therefore follows their salary will be in the range of £24,615 - £32,702 (most likely towards the bottom of that range).
References :
TA Officer.

If your a grunt on the ground in Iraq or Afghanistan trying to contact and get authorization from uav operators in the states to provide immediate close air support can be a bitch. The optics and what you see while you fly has a very long way to go before it can operate like it would with a human pilot that can simply turn his head to look around, one example I know of a pilot was flying and saw some smoke on the ground right after he saw it he got a call for air support at that spot and he was able to provide immediate support, if that was a uav it would have taken time to get information to the operators and then they would have had to scan for the area and then provide support, the point is if there wasnt a human looking around things would have been very different for the guys on the ground. When I was in Iraq we lost a very high target because a uav shorted out or some shit and while it was tracking the vehicle with the individual in it, it suddenly zoomed out to a city wide view and because of that everything went to shit and the bg got away. Its mistakes like that that are easy to make and when there is so much depending on it its just to risky for uav's to take over.
References :
while UAV and what not have made huge advancements they still can't move around like a Human. Also they can not arrest a person or jump a fence. They are being increasingly used but there are human elements that AV just can not replace yet.
References :
Jeeps?
Wow! You must live in a time distorted vortex.
The US Military hasn't used Jeeps since the 80's when the HMMWVs came out.
References :
They may be doing training currently; they're are possibly preparing for a deployment or just doing some sort of annual training. There probably traveling from one base to another like many will do in Afghanistan.
References :
take pics and video of them and post them on the web. people will connect the dots and get you a good answer. Could be preparing for domestic disturbances though.
