Domestic Vehicles (Cars/SUV/Minivans) that can handle 4X8 sheet goods?

May 28th, 2010

I am looking for a vehicle that can carry sheet goods (plywood, sheetrock, etc) during my side job on the weekends but can also have passengers (4-5) during my off hours for family time.
Ideally it should have rear passenger seats that can go down when not in use to carry the sheet goods. When I say "that can handle" I mean you can put the sheet goods in the car and close it all the way so i can drive at highway speeds without worry about it coming out.
I am not looking for commercial vehicles (Full size vans or Pick-up trucks). What make and models are my options?
thanks

May 26th, 2010

My parents have our vehicle in their garage back in the States. We are planning on giving them a POA to ship it over here. How long does it usually take and will the Army pick our vehicle up at their house or will my parents have to drive it somewhere?

When constructing an army-vehicle, how much does the base (metal) weigh?

May 22nd, 2010

Some people say it is super heavy, but others say it’s light. How much does it weigh for the desert and rough terrain vehicles?

If it’s about the armor and some of the structure, I’d just make a broad assumption about the volume of steel and then calculate from there. Some vehicles don’t have armor too, and for comparisons sake they weigh twice as much as the heavier trucks that people buy

Depth (side of vehicle) = 15 ft
Width (front of vehicle) = 8 ft
Height = 5 ft
Average thickness = thick steel = .5"
Other stuff on the vehicle 4000 lbs

- Rough terrain – 10000 lbs
- Dessert would be lighter I’d say around 8500lbs

Army MOS 88N, do you drive the vehicles or go outside the wire.?

May 19th, 2010

Hello, im thinking about joining as an 88N, i was wondering if you get to drive the vehicles and go outside the wire or is it just like an office job?

most likely you wil not leave the wire and you will be a fobbit. You might end up as a tower or gate guard and that will be the closest you will get to real combat. If you want to really help in the fight find another job.

Is there a web site where I can check a used vehicles "past"?

May 15th, 2010

I was wondering if there is a site I can go into to check out the vehicles "past" and where I don’t have to use a credit card or download anything. Oh, and that is safe to use. THANK YOU ALL.

if ur from the uk the government now has a free scheme for owners to check the mot certificates and history of a car

u will need details from the current mot certificate to be able to do a search

Do Army vehicles have ignition keys?

May 12th, 2010

It was a genuine question. Silly answer not entirely unexpected, but not really appreciated

Landrovers, trucks etc = ignition key

tanks, warrior AFVs etc = master switch

I know the army will pay to ship one of our vehicles. My question is, will they also ship our motorcycle?

May 10th, 2010

My husband recently joined the military. His recruiter told us that the army will move all of our belongings, and also ship one vehicle. Will they ship the motorcycle as well, or does it count as a second vehicle (that we have to pay for ourselves)?

Your car will ship as a vehicle. Your bike can be shipped as household goods.

I’m wandering about two different vehicles the Ford Escape and the Nissan Xterra?

May 7th, 2010

I live in Penn I’m thinking about buying a smaller suv I’m interested in either the ford escape or the nissan xterra I want a V6 and 4WD and I’m wandering about gas mileage also if there is any problems with either vehicle Please give me some feedback on either vehicle

The Xterra sucks way more gas and has more of a truck ride than the Escape.
If you are going to do zero off-roading, then the Escape is the less expensive, and more practical, choice.

I would also consider the Hyundai Santa Fe and the new 2011 Kia Sorento.
Don’t touch any Sorento 2009 or before. It’s a totally different vehicle.

Toyota and Nissan make military assault vehicles?

May 5th, 2010

I saw some pictures from Somalia of two assault vehicles that were captured. One was a Toyota and one was a Nissan. They had guns mounted on them.

I’m not sure if those vehicles were made like that or if they had just mounted guns on top of them. However they did not look like any kind of car that you would see on the street.

I suspect what you are referring to are called "technicals". Essentially a civilian light truck (whatever is available, any will do) with some sort of heavy weapon installed in the bed – usually a heavy machine gun or recoilless rifle.

The Japanese do not and can not by law export military hardware.

What happens to the new vehicles after they sit quietly on the car lot?

April 29th, 2010

They sit there till they are sold.
