A peristaltic pump attached to the pedal crank draws water from a large tank, through a filter, to a smaller clean tank. The clean tank is removable and closed for contamination-free home storage and use. A clutch engages and disengages the drive belt from the pedal crank, enabling the rider to filter the water while traveling or while stationary.

The Aquaduct is the winning entry in the Innovate or Die contest put on by Google and Specialized. The contest challenge was to build a pedal powered machine that has environmental impact. Please visit our blog ( http://theaquaduct.blogspot.com/ ) or email team.aquaduct@gmail.com for more details.

Considered to be the closest thing yet to the ultimate eco-car, the TOYOTA FCHV was developed using Toyota’s original hybrid technology—derived from the Prius, the world’s first mass-produced hybrid vehicle—as its core technology.

As R&D on the TOYOTA FCHV continues, the technology that drives it is accelerating toward widespread use. At the same time, we are exploring the potential of a wide range of power sources—including not only hydrogen, but also gasoline, diesel, electricity and alternative fuels—while considering what the optimum eco-car would be for the energy situation, infrastructure and regulations in each country.

As global warming concerns and emission standards threaten vehicle production in the United States, General Motors is exhaustively researching alternative-fuel technologies, including Hydrogen Fuel Cells. A fuel cell creates electricity to power an electric motor via an electrochemical reaction, utilizing Hydrogen (created from water through electrolysis). GM has chosen to showcase its Hydrogen Fuel Cell system in its crossover SUV, the Chevrolet Equinox — bucking the anti-SUV trend by creating a vehicle that can carry the entire family and its cargo all while emitting nothing but water from the tailpipe. Currently Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell Vehicles are only available through the Project Driveway Program — a user trial designed to collect as much information as possible from drivers and onboard data collectors. GM hopes to use this data to one day incorporate Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology into other vehicles. Check out the video below to learn all about the Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell Vehicle with kbb’s Video Production Editor Beth Lear-VanderYacht.
