Can the 12volt cigar receptacle in a vehicle be used to Charge the vehicles battery?

I was wondering if you can send power TO the receptacle to charge the vehicles battery?
in case you alternator is not being used!

That would be powered by the alternator if the car is running. Of course if your alternator worked it would be charging your battery already.

If the lighter socket is live all the time and not fed from an accessory or key on only circuit, the battery can be charged from the lighter socket if the charging circuit is kept lower than the socket’s fuse – usually 10 or 15 amps.

There are solar trickle chargers that plug into the lighter socket. Anything plugged into it cannot exceed the fuse rating and that is for usage or charging.

I have a set of jumper cables that plug into the lighter sockets of both cars, and they do the job. Much quicker & cleaner, plus much easier to keep in the trunk.

Normaly the cigar liter is wired directly to the elecrical system in the car so yes you can charge the battery by using the receptacal with the proper plug. Why is the alternator not being used?
